Ragi Modak
Give a healthy twist to your usual modaks with the ragi flour and jaggery filling
Ingredients:
- Ragi Flour – 1 cup
- Water – ¼ cup
- Jaggery Powder - as preferred
- Ghee - as preferred
- Cardamom – 3-4 powdered
- Dry fruits (of your choice) – quantity as required
Preparation
Dough:
- Boil water and add a pinch of salt to it
- In a large bowl add a cup of ragi flour. Add the boiled water in the flour, knead it into a soft dough and keep it aside.
Filling 1:
- In a bowl, add grated jaggery/jaggery powder, grated coconut, powdered dry fruits, cardamom powder and mix well
- Grease the modak mould with little ghee from inside. Fill it with a small amount of dough and spread it evenly along with the shape
- Now stuff the filling into the mould and close the opening with the little dough. Slowly open the mould and get the modak out. Prepare few more modaks in a similar manner
- Steam all the modaks in an idli cooker or steamer for 10min serve hot
Filling 2:
- In a mixer, add roasted peanuts, Bengal gram (roasted chana dal), dry fruits of your choice, roasted rice poha and grind them coarsely
- To this mixture add grated jaggery/jaggery powder as per sweetness, cardamom powder and mix well
Note: half a cup of rice flour can also be added with Ragi flour while kneading
